Our Lady of Sorrows

History

About Us

Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, a vibrant Catholic faith community rooted in the heart of Grand Rapids. Since our founding in 1908, we have strived to live out the Gospel in love, service, and fellowship. Our worship home is located at 101 Hall Street SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We are proud of our bilingual (English/Spanish) presence, which helps us to reach and welcome a diverse community of believers.

At Our Lady of Sorrows, we believe our mission is to:

Worship God deeply, centering our lives around the Eucharist and the sacraments

Form disciples, through catechesis, small faith communities, and lifelong spiritual growth

Serve others, by extending Christ’s love in works of charity, justice, and mercy

Foster community, by embracing every person and building connections of faith, hope, and fellowship

We treasure our traditions, yet remain open to new movements of grace. We strive to be a parish where all feel welcomed, nurtured, and sent forth to live as missionary disciples.

Looking Ahead: A New Chapter

Beginning August 2025, Our Lady of Sorrows will be placed under the pastoral care of St. Francis Xavier & Our Lady of Guadalupe. This transition offers an opportunity for deeper collaboration, shared resources, and renewed vitality in mission. As we enter this new chapter, we pray for unity, openness, and a spirit of hope in what God will do among us.

We see this shift as a chance to strengthen bonds, renew our spiritual life, and draw more people into the love of Christ.
